Who We Are & What We Do

The Way Forward for the Fijian Mission: Strategic Vision and Action

The Fijian Mission (Na Matabose ni Lotu Vaka-Viti) is charting a strategic path centered on its vision of "Nurturing God's People to Follow Jesus". This mission is guided by three core strategic steps: Preparing People, Cultivating Places, and Aligning Resources. The "Preparing People" step focuses on developing servant leaders at all ministry levels through Lay Servant Training and seminary education, aiming to attract and train future leaders for tomorrow's churches. This includes an emphasis on a discipleship process that transitions new members through Certified Lay Servant (Siga Dina), Certified Lay Speaker, and Certified Lay Minister (Vakatawa Yaco) roles. Key leaders are currently enrolled in Masters of Divinity programs at PSR, representing home churches like Patterson Federated Church, Santa Rosa First UMC, and San Rafael First UMC.

The second and third steps ensure the mission's long-term sustainability and community impact. Cultivating Places involves collaborating with the conference to identify conducive worship sites and new church plant locations to accommodate growth and fully express the Fijian Methodist tradition. Aligning Resources is dedicated to securing support for leadership training and accessing church resources that promote the spiritual, intellectual, social, and cultural advancement of Fijian Mission members. The mission governs its efforts through quarterly committee meetings and convenes the entire community for two Annual Combined Worships (January and July) and an Annual Mission Summit in October, which celebrates Fijian history and independence.
